Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree with you that we should never buy into dogma. I also followed a vegetarian diet for many years because I bought into the dogma of it, and while I did feel good for a while, after some time it caused me many health problems. I think there are some people that can thrive on vegetarian diets, but I am not one of those people. Also, humans do have taste buds specifically for tasting meat, that tells me, generally humans are meant to eat at least some meat. In fact, if we follow our taste buds, we can see exactly what foods we are supposed to eat, sweet, sour, salty, bitter and savory (i.e. meat and fats). Different people will need different amounts of these tastes, some may need to eat more meat and less sweets (in other words carbohydrates); some may need more carbohydrates and less meat, depending on that individual, but it should be clear by examining human physiology that we are omnivores. As you said, we need to listen to our own body. Easier said than done, but I do agree with this 100%, and in order to listen to our own body, we need to eliminate all dogma from our life. Paleo diets are dogmatic, each paleo-guru with their own rules and regulations, that is the #1 reason why I don't support the paleo diet. Just like fruitarians, vegetarians, or any other -arians who will spew their dogmatic propoganda and tell you why their diet it the best and anyone who doesn't agree with them is an idiot. We need to be done with dogma. If we want to learn about human health, we need to study human anatomy and physiology and all the answers reveal themselves very quickly. Or even better, as you said just really listen to our bodies and let them tell us what we need. The only problem is, once the body becomes imbalanced, we lose our mental and physical intelligence and we may desire the wrong foods and even purposefully avoid the very foods that could nourish our bodies and souls back to health and balance.
