Be careful with bread! From what I have recently read and watched on youtube (you can search on Dr Brownstein and "iodine - the most misunderstood nutrient" ) bread in the United States has got bromide in it, which blocks Iodine - go figure! In the 1970s they took Iodine out of bread and put in bromide. Anyone who eats bread in the US has been eating bromide, unless you know for sure the bread you are eating doesn't have it.
If you are trying to take Iodine for health you have to be aware that most of us in this country have been filled with bromide, without our knowledge or consent. Bromide is toxic. It is filling the receptors where iodine should be. Dr Sherry Tenpenny says that for optimal results you need to go very slowly on replacing bromide. In fact, she recommends 6 to 8 weeks of first taking selenium and then very gradually introducing iodine. Otherwise, if you kick the bromide out too quickly by taking tons of iodine you dump the bromide into your bloodstream all at once and that feels toxic -- because it is!
