Re: Information on Antidepressants THE AMINE THEORY
Hi. I hope your researching is going well. There is a great book which changed my life when I was in a similar place. It's actually available for free online now.. It's called 'the way up from down' and is about how malnutrtion and a lack of certain amino acids can cause low mood and depression.
5-htp is effective for some. It is actually one of the building blocks which the body used to make serotonin. Unfortunately the standard american diet, and even diets of a lot of people who eat well, is deficient in the aminos required to supply the brain with enough happiness juice.
I personally have found L-Tryptophan to be much more effective than 5-htp and it is actually closer in the chain to serotonin. L-Tryptophan is actually the direct precurser to serotonin within the metabolism process of proteins into our important neurochemicals.
I strongly recommend checking out the book and anything else you can find that speaks of the 'amine theory of depression'. It's the real deal! I was on zoloft for 8 months once and found that the *benefits* of it, which unfortunately were much less than the negative side effects, were exactly the same as when I am taking l-tryptophan, l-tyrosine (the pre-curser to dopamine) and *B COMPLEX* every day. the b vitamins are crucial as they are coenzymes which are needed to properly metabolise the proteins which create our neurochemicals. I would also recommend coral calcium or some sort of alkalinizing element as an acidic body has contributed to low mood and
Depression in my history as well.
