hey wrenface, I'm female as well and similar age as you. My lips used to look like yours the first 6-8 months I'd say (or worse on some days). It's been a bit better now since I tried the constant moisturize method. Here're some of the things I do to manage the situation:
1. I use straw when I brush my teeth so the toothpaste doesn't touch the lips. It's hard to spit out the water through straws at first but it'll come naturally after a while. I also use mouthwash sometimes, again, through straws. For flossing, the floss picks make it easier if you want to floss the back teeth.
2. When eating out, try to avoid ordering dishes that you can't cut into pieces (spagettie/noodles, sandwiches, chicken wings etc). I use knife and fork when I eat pizza, burger.. In social outings if I want to drink, wine and beer are off-limit. Cocktails are easier since most of the time it's less awkward to drink cocktails with straws.
3. I bring a small make-up pouch with me everywhere I go now. In it, I have cotton swaps, lip moisturizer (I use bepanthen), and a small mirror.
I'm sure you'll pick up a few more tips that work for your lifestyle along the way. If you have any tips for others please do share. Good luck! :)
