I've suffered from Depression my entire life. I don't take medication regularly.. rather, I use it for 'emergencies' when I can't seem to dig myself out of the hole. I've read all the literature and self help books on depression, and many other 'conditions'... but what's really helped put things in perspective for me is the scientific reasons behind dissatisfaction. There is a book that pulled me from the brink of suicide. It's out of print, but you can find it in a used bookstore or get it online for less than ten dollars. It's called "The Human Zoo" by Desmond Morris. It touches on some of the scientific reasons we never seem to be happy in our lives our society, and shows that it isn't just us-- there are evolutionary reasons that predispose certain people to be more dissatisfied than others.
