Re: Pulled Tooth update

pain and swelling are two separate but often intertwined circumstances.

Pain, as far as what one person requires versus what another person does not require in order to reduce or outright deaden it's severity, is somewhat relative and to a significant extent relative to an individual's tolerance/threshold for pain. For myself personally, there have been various physical pains I've experienced occuring over various parts of my body, some of which I noticed I have quite a high tolerance for, others I don't. When it comes to the kinds of pains that can occur in the mouth/head, especially during drilling, over the years I've found myself to have a fairly typical low threshold; I request novacaine. The pain that occurs while being drilled is not exactly the same as the kind that can occur after the fact during the healing process, but I am still surprised that I have not wanted/needed anything to help the after-the-fact pain, mostly because there has not been any!. On the other hand, I know people who regularly have teeth drilled and who specifically request not having novacaine beforehand to lessen (or eliminate) the pain.

Swelling and inflamation, as best I can tell, are not largely a matter of state-of-mind. In other words, the average person generally cannot think their swelling away, although I reserve some judgment on this as it may apply to techniques of mind-over-matter. Aside from this possibility, one generally needs to do something to minimize swelling & inflamation other than just thinking about it and or applying some kind of deep, meditative, mystical zen mind-trick. To repeat, there may be more to this than what I'm aware..... I'm just not aware, yet. There has been a bit of swelling after this extraction.... I can feel it more than I can see it although there was a few hours during which I could actually see the swelling around the cheek/jaw. Given the amount, severity, and duration of work done (two hands gently wrenching, pulling, pushing, and working about and throughout the inside of my mouth with all kinds of tools for a good 70 minutes), even under the best circumstances, some swelling and inflamation was to be expected.

It's now coming up on 48 hours post. To this point, I'm as pleasantly surprised and amazed by the results using hot pepper as you may be.
