Re: Pulled Tooth update

As suspected, I caved into temptation and began a hot pepper treatment prior to taking a nap. Note, MH has often said that pretty much any and all of the hot peppers (IE> not just cayenne) can be used for health needs (like wounds) that can benefit from improved circulation. So in the context of herbal uses, I'm using the term "cayenne" in a broad generic sense that implies any such hot pepper containting Capsicum.

There are some cayenne and cherry peppers in the freezer from last years crop. Several weeks ago I used some of these to make a Cayenne Liniment (for chest congestion among other uses) following instructions in the Christopher SoNH Guide Book. Meanwhile, this years crops are growing quite well. A sample was picked about a week ago and put into the freezer. This year's crop includes a variety of (about) 6 different types of hot peppers, to include cayenne, habanero, and several varieties of chili found at a local nursery this past spring. Also note, the variety of Habaneros I grow are not red peppers.... they ripen to a shade that I can best describe as Tequilla Sunrise Orange.

For obvious reasons it's not all that practical to put much of a bandage on a wound inside the mouth. My current dentist (who I'll refer to as Doc B) used a wad of gauze soaked in a well-known antiseptic before sending me home yesterday. Shortly after arriving home, the novacaine was starting to wear off, the next thing I knew I was in the kitchen tinkering. I decided to soak a fresh wad of gauze in some of the liniment. Then I finely chopped up a bit of a couple peppers from the freezer and wove into the soaked gauze before placing into my mouth by the wound and biting down, where it was kept in place for several hours. Eventually I decided to take it out and eat a bit but afterwards prepared a fresh bandage in similar fashion. One of the nice things about some of the recently picked chili peppers is that several of them are this kinda cute, tiny baby sized pepper.... almost tooth-sized, so I stabbed one a few times to open it up a bit and placed it directly onto the wound before adding the fresh bandage and biting down. I left this in for several hours and took it out before nodding off. I slept like a rock.

Long story short, it's now about 27 hours after the fact of having the tooth out, and I have yet not experienced any pain or swelling. At best, the area at and near the wound is tender, but no pain. I find this somewhat amazing especially in light of the fact that Doc B advised me to definitely expect some pain. I think he did a really good job but also think that he was setting the stage for something he thought wise to do - having the frame of mind to plan for the worst while hoping for the best.
