Did you actually check the liquid's temperature? Most procedures suggest the solution temperature not exceed 103F.
Your rectum and colon, having various nerve endings might be far more sensitive to either hot or cold solutions than say your wrist.
What I do is take my core (rectal temperature) first. Yes, many will not do that. For some reason enemas are OK, thermometers are not. Go figure. But anyway I check and then attempt to get the solution to the same temperature as my core temperature. If you're in doubt, and think a solution might be too hot or cold, refill the bag until you've got what you are comfortable with. A quick release of water will surely indicate if you're too hot or too cold, and then you can adjust it.
