Re: Liver flukes

Hi Natway,

In the United States, doctors are not trained in parasitology. They are trained to recognize heart disease, cancers, autoimmune diseases, but not the actual cause of all those diseases: parasites.

Take a look at this article that came out recently about a misdiagnosis of this man's actual parasitic condition which lead to his death.

http://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20130320/man-dies-after-parasitic-worms-invade...

The man's case emphasizes the importance of testing patients who might be infected with the parasite before giving them drugs to dampen the immune system, said Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, who's familiar with the report findings.

"You have to think twice before starting big doses of steroids," Hotez said. "The problem is that most physicians are not taught about this disease. It often does not get recognized until it's too late."

Also labs are not equipped to deal with recognizing parasites. When a stool sample is sent to a lab, a technician only looks at a small sample of the stool, and does not comb through the entire sample. parasites might be present in the sample, but the technician only looks at one microscopic part of the sample because he/she doesn't have time, and labs don't have the resources to comb through entire stool samples which can take 6-10 hours just for one sample.

It seems illogical that our modern medical system is so inept at something that has been around for centuries, but remember that back in the 1940s, doctors didn't even know about different blood types, and would do random transfusions and the people who survived were the luck of the draw who received blood from their own type or the 0 type by pure chance.

So when considering the source of information, I think you should consider that the CDC is rather in the dark, or there is a global Conspiracy to keep people from panicking about parasitic infections. After all, what would happen if all the people discovered the cause of all major diseases were from parasites that they picked up from our own water system? From our steaks? Chickens? Pigs? Sushi? People would panic on a mass scale and our industries would suffer.

But that's probably going a bit off topic....

Brooke
