I had it too for quite some time. I tried a lot of different powders, sprays, pills that helped until I stopped taking them and it kept coming back. I travel a lot and I am in and out of hotel showers and it's easy to pick up athlete's foot. Same fungus. Had mildew smell to towels and clothing and my research said that the fungus can survive washings. I had bought a new front load washer. Drained the water left over after washing after about 4 months of not doing it and the smell was awful and water black. Decided that maybe the fungus WAS surviving washes and decided to try and locate something to kill the fungus in the laundry and the washer. Found a product called Odoban. Comes in three scents. Lavender, citrus and eucalyptus. You can buy at Sam's club (eucalyptus) and Home Depot (citrus and lavender) I recommend the lavender but have not tried citrus. We washed everything (started with all of my underwear) as usual then added Odoban to the clothing during the rinse cycle. You must use it every load but the jock itch went away, the laundry smells clean again and I am very happy. Drained the washer several times since then and it smells like Odoban. No more disgusting smell. Many people complain about the odor from front loading washers. THIS FIXES IT. If you want to be rid of the problem once and for all, THIS IS HOW TO DO IT UNLESS YOU HAVE AN UNDERLYING MEDICAL ISSUE. THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED. I know how frustrated you are. I was there. I only signed up to post this and help someone because I know how hard I worked to figure it out.
