Re: Low lacto and bifido- need help

another good source would be organic sauerkraut. It is so incredibly expensive at the stores and I don't think the non organic sauerkraut has the same probiotic content that the organc kraut does. Nevertheless I have just tried to make my own.

The kettle's are expensive so I bought a brewers food grade 6.5 gal bucket with a rubber grommet insert and bought the airlock seperately. I hope it works, we shall wait and see. I duct taped the edges around the bucket to try to make sure no air was leaking.

I could never get the milk kefir to grow well unless I used non homogenized milk. I ventured into the completely organic milk and it's pretty expensive. Also, there were low temp and time pastuerizated milks that worked o.k. with the grains. The effects were very beneficial though. I never experienced anything close to the benefit from store bought milk kefir.

But, either fermenting the sauerkraut or kefir grains is a much better way to go than the store bought probiotics (imho). They never seemed to make that much difference for me, even when I forked out the mega bucks for the threelac and such. Actually there are many variations of kraut, yogurt and kefir too. Some people will use the kefir as the starter for the kraut and it cuts down on the fermenting time considerably.
