Yes, coconut oil helped me get through some of the worst of my times with this. I probably wouldn't have been able to try the leave it alone method last year without building up to it with coconut and other oils.
Jaye, have you thought about oil pulling? In oil pulling you swish the liquid and spit it out after 10-15 minutes, it supposedly pulls toxins through the mucosal surface of the mouth and fights microbes. I've used raw sesame oil, but I think many use coconut or olive oil. The trick is spitting it out sliding it down your tongue without getting it on the lips.
While coconut oil is healthy for you as an antimicrobial and antifungal it is obviously high in saturated fat, and saturated fat in the long term has been linked to cancer and cardiovascular disease.
