Re: God’s Sovereignty and perfect knoweledge.
"But," says someone, "He foresaw that you would have faith; and, therefore, He loved you." What did He foresee about my faith? Did He foresee that I should get that faith myself, and that I should believe on Him of myself? No; Christ could not foresee that, because no Christian man will ever say that faith came of itself without the gift and without the working of the Holy Spirit. I have met with a great many believers, and talked with them about this matter; but I never knew one who could put his hand on his heart, and say, "I believed in Jesus without the assistance of the Holy Spirit."
Charles Spurgeon
John 3:3
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:6
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 1:13
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, BUT of God.
1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
Romans 9:18
18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
Just throwing out a few things here. I don't want to get in a big debate over this.
I just wish those on the Arminian side would at least acknowledge there are some hard scriptures to deal with to hold to "it's all man's choice."
I will acknowledge there are some hard scriptures for those of us that hold the Calvinist view to deal with. But for me, when I came to see that salvation is really of the Lord, I couldn't help but see it on every page then. How could God be sovereign over everything but salvation?
Anyway, no need to go any further with this.
This is an excellent sermon by Charles Spurgeon for anyone interested:
