It seems gum disease is endemic, almost everyone over the age of 35 has it in some degree, even if undiagnosed. I was diagnosed with it, last dentist visit, and was slated for root planing/scaling and to have five teeth pulled! I said "thanks but no thanks" and embarked on intensive natural treatments including OPing. My gums would bleed periodically and I did get the feeling this was a cleansing symptom. They haven't bled for a while now. Anyway, I get the sense this is a cleansing symptom for you too. Keep going, you are on the right track. You might want to add high dose vitamin C, as I did among other things.
