Sodium, potassium, and adrenal fatigue

The adrenal cortex regulates the amount of sodium and potassium in the body.

When people have adrenal fatigue, they can have an excess of potassium and a deficiency of sodium.

When people have an excess of potassium, the kidneys produce more urine, which results in increased elimination of water from the body, which may lead to dehydration, and constant thirst.

When people have an excess of sodium, the kidneys produce less urine, which results in less elimination of water from the body, which may lead to fluid retention, if severe enough.

The herb Licorice / Liquorice promotes the health of the adrenal cortex, which results in a genuine improvement in the condition of people with adrenal fatigue, and is much more beneficial than taking salt. You must use the herb Licorice, not the candy. I recommend using the 1:1 liquid extract of Licorice.

This applies to genuine adrenal fatigue.

Be aware, there are some people who come on this forum, and say they have adrenal fatigue, when they may have something else, such as chronic fatigue. They may find a different treatment beneficial.
