Re: Does anyone get really random cravings when fasting?
I apologize for the food related message, since the main thread here is water fast.
I have random cravings all the time. I link them most often to emotional memories of satisfaction and happy carelessness. And to sort of boredom and sensual deprivation while fasting. Craving for grain products for me are the most difficult, since I used to have a lot of them, when I was a child.
I keep in mind that I need to build new attachment for foods that are good for me.
Sometimes I would give in to the Naughty cravings and very often I will be disappointed, which over time had diminished the liking of certain standard foods, like fries or cheese.
Very often I am convinced that I rather want the sesame flavor of a waffle, the thyme aroma of a Italian dressing, or the nutmeg flavor of another product, and using these healthy spices/seeds/herbs on good food had proven very efficient.
Another successful tool is replacing. E.g. replacing bad fatty food craving - with healthy fatty food, like avocado, cashew or coconut. Flax seed freshly ground in a coffee grinder has savory nutty flavor and is quite satiating. Two tablespoons a day are the average daily intake of Omega-3 oils. I use it with salads, rice cakes, sometimes as a side micro-dish with vegetable juices; sometimes I mix it with a tbsp of sesame oil, for a change. It is also anti-inflammatory and helps every cell to function properly. Our bodies could crave fatty foods, just because we need fats, but the good ones. I can not crave ice cream or fries after having a coconut or half to whole avocado.
