I had a very interesting weekend. My cousin is getting married and I'm the best man. I planned a trip to LA for 3 nights of pure debauchery. Of course, me being sick was a problem and for the most part I just went out for days excursions while "trying" to sleep at night as they partied in the room. The entire trip my symptoms varied but I found that for the most part I was able to walk around for most of the day with zero issues, not feeling tired etc and felt a lot like my old self. I didn't take any isocort since I had run out and just stuck to taking some vitamins eating what I could that was 'within' range of not being terrible bad and staying hydrated. We would walk for hours and never once did I feel exhaustion. The times of anxiety always hit around the same time, between 11 a.m. until around noon, but these would go away shortly after and I would feel normal again. My waking up with anxiety hasnt been an issue. Last night after I landed I showered, ate, took my remron, my PS and passed out within 20 minutes and woke up at 3:40 a.m. only to go back to sleep again and do my usual wake up every few hours.
This is an improvement from not sleeping much at all.
Anyways, I'm starting to think that perhaps my adrenals are working OK and are just out of wack. When I did my testing, my levels were almost in the low range close to the reference range but I had also been taking Xanax / Klonopin. (which I'm 100% sure skewed the test - anothe clue was that my GABA levels were high, seratonin OK but my NE was low which Klonopin affects - it irritates me that my ND doesn't acknowledge that) I've been reading up a lot on licorice root, I mean A LOT, and it seems to be VERY good and have effects that hydrocortisone and Florinef don't. I know my ND wants me to stick with Isocort, but at times when I take it it really wires me up. I feel like perhaps its shooting my cortisol through the roof? Right now I feel like my body stays pretty constant mood from 2 to 3 p.m. until the next morning, I no longer go to sleep with doom and glood and wake up OK then I get hit with anxiety around 11 and tiredness. I have also found myself yawning A LOT more. This was the case when I first started to feel bad so I'm thinking its a positive? The klonopin that I'm on right now also seems to help a lot. I have read that it raises DHEA but lowers cortisol.
Well, I really want to try Licorice root because it seems to have immense benefits beyond cortisol. Is there a particular brand that I should take? and what dosage should I start with? I have read that you need to take it with milk in the morning and build up until your ankles swell. Which shows sodium / potassium balance then back off and stay at that dose. I have read that some people have had INCREDIBLE success using Licorice and some have felt better in days!
What are people's thoughts? I'm currently feel like I'm at a point where my stress have lessened quite a bit and with the right products I can start to feel better sooner.
