I don't think a credible argument can be made against the true age of life on earth being around 500 million years.

This doesn't need to conflict with what is written in the Bible for it also says “With God one day is a thousand years and a thousand years is one day.” Those whose intent it is to disprove the existence of a divine creator citing exact literal translation miss seeing the true intent of God's word. Science has yet to fully understand the intricate workings of our own human body much less all the hows and whys of the entire universe. Do we really need to comprehend what passes all human understanding in order to have faith? Perhaps the evolution/creation question's divine intent is to cull those who wish to see themselves as being in full control through human reasoning and in doing so separate themselves from God.
