Re: Prescribed Omeprazole after food stuck in esophagus

Do you have a problem with reflux? Did the doctor see evidence of reflux damage? Prilosec is usually prescribed for gerd and short term it doesn't cause much of a problem. If it was prescribed for pain and inflammation in the esophagus caused by the food getting stuck, licorice and slippery elm would probably be a better choice. Slippery elm powder made into a slurry and then swallowed will soothe inflamed tissue. Licorice is also a natural anti-inflammatory and is soothing. I find both helpful for my esophagus when I get a bad case of gerd. I take lyrica for nerve pain and that can contribute to gerd if I don't watch what I eat and eat too close to bed time.
