I was seeing a metabolic typing specialist at the time (who just so happened to use ARL as well) who pinpointed my oxidation rate and "type". he is the one who told me it was not accurate...it takes more than just hair to determine this. (he checked my urine specific gravity and top my BP a few times in different positions and some other stuff too) I think that are some metabolic typing tests you can take on line to get an idea....It basically comes down to what do you crave? what makes you feel satiated? I know that when I didnt eat enough protein or if there was grain in my meal, I didnt feel satisfied or energized from my meal. I was a slow oxideizer on ARL and fast oxidizer (protein type) working with the specialist. I did start off eating the recommended diet, but I gained so much weight from eating so much b/c i didnt feel satisfied and i felt terrible to boot. All I know is that i no longer had severe blood Sugar crashes when i switched over.
My ARL practitioner admitted that she does much better on a fast oxidation diet than on a slow one which is what she has been for years.
A D.O. I was working with at the time said it best :When using HTMA its like looking at a map, but you need a telescope to zoom into the details of the land....ie, fine tuning and such. Hope this helps.
