Re: Day 4 of fast and very weak. Is this normal?
I am on day 4 of my fast, and I have several questions.
1. I am feeling very weak. I really can't walk around. I've been on the couch all day the last four days. Is this normal? Does this mean I should not fast?
Hi Vibrant,
Great job in reaching your 4th day! You are doing right to rest as much as possible and to not attempt fighting against the weakness. Is such weakness normal?... exceedingly so, yes. Does it mean you should not fast?... You're in it now and it is my belief that your best course would be to continue forth with it. It is very possible that you would have benefited from doing a lot of raw foods and/or juicing for many days (pre-cleansing) in leading into the water-only fast and that you would then be feeling stronger and more comfortable once taking only water, but in any case you are cleansing and healing at a very aggressive pace and the benefits with which you emerge will be wonderful and many.
2. My lungs feel very weak, and I can't laugh. I do have mild asthma, although it's been years since my last attack. I had a bad flu in early January, which caused me to cough up mucous. Is this related to the weakness in my lungs?
It could be related or it possibly was not, but the fast will do a delightful work in your lungs. It is normal for laughter to require more energy than we can afford while fasting. I recall a fast where i absolutely had to turn a comedian off because it was too funny for what i could handle :).
3. Before I started the fast, I weighed 97 lbs. (I am 5 feet tall.). Does my small size and lack of body fat preclude me from doing a 21-day fast?
In my opinion it is unlikely that you would reach the threshold where your body fat becomes too low before 21 days, but if it should happen you would enter into genuine hunger which would be amazing and wonderful.
4. How will I know when to break the fast?
Genuine hunger would be a sure bet, but unlikely within 21 days even for you. Otherwise when best to break can be a bit tricky. Ideally when feeling good though and definitely not mid crisis, nausea being a prime example of this. For this reason it is generally best to not have a predetermined number of days in mind, but rather an approximate time frame.
Thank you for your thoughts and comments. I wish I had a doctor to help me with this, but I can't find one knowledgeable in fasting.
You are most welcome. Sadly, Witch Doctors are most knowledgeable at prescribing Witch Doctor medications - also known as pharmaceuticals. In a perfect society this would absolutely not be the case and rather the health care professionals would understand and prescribe fasting often for their patients and would be experts in their supervision.
