Lack of stomach acid causes candida

I read Natural Triad magazine all the time. i live in NC in the triad area and they have the best articles on there on natural therapies. Dr.Elizabeth Vaughn is in integrative medicine and does transcripts. she wrote something about IBS recently with one of her clients and it lead to talking about candida. I thought I would share what she wrote because it might be of use to you all:

"Your gut wall acts as a barrier between the rest of your body and whats inside the gut. If your gut wall is damaged by psychological stress, stomach flu, toxins, or taking various meds like Antibiotics , steroids, NSAID's, or pills that reduce stomach acid, then you may develop a leaky gut wall or an intestinal permeablity disorder as its known in the literature. when this happens, your immune system can 'see' the food that youre eating inside your gut, and it triggers an inflammatory reaction. This reaction may cause fatigue, weight gain, IBS, etc."

It makes me wonder if taking TUMS with calcium carbonate and antacids are a huge mistake. is it true that a lack of stomach acid is why we have candida? that is interesting..

here is the link to read this months issue it is in..
