Root beer kefir recipe?

Hi,
I want to make some root beer kefir, I have all the stuff but I'm not really sure how!!

I can't find the recipe anywhere. I read how to start the water kefir and I'm hoping my grains are still good I didn't realize there were supposed to be refrigerated. (oops?).

Do you add the rootbeer herbs after you strain out the kefir grains to do a second fermentation? Or do you brew the grains and make a "tea" and use that as the water for it? I just don't get it. This is confusing!

When I start trying to revive the grains I read to soak them for a couple hours in spring water then rinse and repeat till they look all healthy then put them in Sugar water overnight. Correct?

I read through the Kefir FAQ links on here and I'm just worried about getting the grains started, after that I think I will be all good.

Thanks!
