I use a soft bristle brush but NEVER use toothpaste. Besides poisonous fluoride toothpaste also contains sodium lauryl sulphate an unpleasant and cheap chemical detergent which has been known to cause mouth ulcers. Also the abrasives in some toothpaste wear out the tooth enamel.
While flossing is VITAL to long term dental health, brushing only reaches what really doesn't need cleaning and it does wear some on the enamel. It just feels good to run the tongue over slippery shiny just brushed teeth. If you can just avoid using toothpaste it does very little harm.
I'm 57 and still have all mine except I had my only root canal tooth extracted out of paranoia (fear of unknown toxins). It was replaced with a zircona implant (no metal). I would never consider another root canal, dead teeth should be removed from the body.
