Re: Kefir - Tooth Decay

After drinking kefir for about a week my teeth have become extremely sensitive. Within a few minutes after drinking the kefir, my teeth become sensitive and it last for hours. I have been following HV's advice and washing my mouth out with water immediately after, but it doesn't seem to help. I have even tried to use listerine several times with no relief. I also tried to drink with a straw and not let it get in my mouth, that did not work either.

After I googled my concern I have found many people talking about tooth decay and kefir. Dentist have confirmed the perm. damage to their enamel as well as cavaties.

I want the benefit of kefir without the worry about tooth decay. I know this is going to sound a little crazy, but is there some way I could use a simple feeding tube down my throat in order to bypass the teeth?

Are you sure you did not have damage to your teeth already?  It takes a lot longer than a week for a mild acid to cause that much damage to the enamel.  Consider how many people drink a lot of soda, which contains much stronger acids, yet it takes a very long time to cause severe enamel damage.

Some things that can help strengthen the teeth are alfalfa herb, nettle leaf, seaweeds and other silica sources.

Damage to the enamel can also occur from an overly dry mouth so chewing on xylitol gum in between meals can help.  This also helps to promote saliva, which washes acids off the teeth.

As far as taking the kefir something else you can try is to swish your mouth with water that has a little baking soda in it after drinking the kefir to neutralize any traces of acid that may remain, especially if you suffer from low saliva production.
