More general info for you, in case you buy a new monitor.
In my case, because I'm not technically-inclined with computers, I'll now only use the monitor that is the same brand/make as the computer. I have a Mac and forked out the extra money for the Apple monitor and I'm glad I did. If the components don't match each other, I think it can cause problems.
So I paid a bit more but won't (hopefully) have to upgrade my system for a very long time.
