Hi studentmind, welcome to the forum.

Rum and bourbon are saturated with sugar and they can be sweet.  It would be better if you'd use a mixture of 3/4 part 80 proof vodka and 1/4 part 151 proof rum.  

We always want to use the emptiest alcohol to make tinctures to assure absorption of the herbs, other alcohols don't have the absorption qualities that vodka has due to it being empty.
