Re: Tincture Alcohol Questions
Whatever size jar you're using you'll need the same size/amount of vodka. So, if you're using 1/2 gallon jars then you'd want to buy a 1/2 gallon of vodka per jar. You wouldn't think that once you put the herbs in there would still be room for a whole 1/2 gallon of vodka but believe me there is.
If you're gonna follow my advice lol, here is what I said regarding what my part per herb was:
"I use only 1/2 gallon jars and with that size I use about a cup of each of the Echinacea's."
That's 1 cup of each Echinacea, not 1/2 cup.
As for the other herbs you're going to tincture, I don't know that 1 cup of herb would be right. The reason? All herbs are different, some swell to twice their size or more like Echinacea (Echinacea swells more than any I've used) and some don't swell at all, so for those that don't swell you might use more than one cup for a 1/2 gallon jar if you're only using one herb.
My end goal is always to have about 3/4 herb and 1/4 float in my jar. Some people make 2/3 herb and 1/3 float, that is something you have to decide for yourself. I like my tinctures to be strong but remember, the longer you leave it tincturing the stronger it's going to be.
You'll get the hang of it and you'll make great tinctures Jackie! Just have fun with it.
Blessings,
