Re: Juice Fast Ideas/Suggestions
Hi Jackie,
Embarking on another juice fast, good for you! Any idea how long of a fast you'll do? I'm going to start one soon.
Last time I basically drank the same thing every day and think perhaps that was part of my problem. I did last 10 days but I got really tired of the juice. I was drinking greens (Collard, kale, etc) and Carrot in equal parts with celery, a little parsley, beet, apple , lemon and sometimes a cucumber. I am wondering how everyone else does their juice? Do you drink different combination's each day? If so, I would love some new ideas. Or do you drink several single vege juices such as a pint of carrot etc?
I usually stick to only a couple of combinations of juice while I'm juice fasting, I'm learning to like different things slowly but I do try to figure out a new combo at least once a day. It doesn't bother me to drink the same juice over and over again but for me the goal is to expand on the variety of veggies I drink, I don't always come up with something new everyday but I do try my best to lol! I do combos of carrot/pineapple and I also drink a pint or two of just carrot a day. Apple, pineapple and a small piece of ginger is good too.
I saw a post from Uny which listed her "apple salad" (2/3 apple juice, almost 1/3 celery, and a splash of orange or pineapple) which I plan to try. When you make fruit juices like this do you go ahead and fill the jars with the "apple salad" or is it better to make pint jars of only apple, only celery and only orange? I thought once you open a jar you had to drink the whole thing which is why I have not been making mono juices except for apple which Uny said was okay to not drink it its entirety. Any other suggestions on fruit juices that are available now?
I mix my combos as I'm juicing. For example, I'll line up several pints, I'll have my flats ready to close up the jars ASAP. I'll juice all the carrots first and fill the jars to about 2/3 full, then I'll juice a couple of pineapples and fill them up to the rim with the pineapple juice and seal them and stick them in the fridge. I never mix them up later.
When Uny told you it was ok to not drink all the apple juice, that was in reference to the bad calcium flush not a juice fast. The malic acid is what is important in the bad calcium flush, not the enzymes. When juice fasting it's the enzymes that are important and the enzymes start dying when air hits them therefore you need to drink the pint of juice when you open it, you can't be saving part of it for later.
I was going through some recipes I googled and found one that's supposed to taste like V8 juice which my husband LOVES so I think I'll try this one when we do our fast.
1 bunch of cilantro
1 bunch of romaine
1/2 bunch of purple kale
5 inches of ginger root
3 cloves of garlic
4 green onions
6 big juicy tomatoes
2 cucumber
1 bunch of celery
1 bunch of carrots
3 lemons
2 limes
I wanted to make some fruit juices as well but besides apple I have not really had much luck. I am not a huge fan of oranges. I tried pear and Kiwi but both became a mushy mess. I do have a good juicer, it is a Omega 8006 but I cant seem to get soft fruits to juice well?
I absolutely LOVE grapefruit juice so I drink a couple of pints of that a day. Have you tried a juicing berries or a mixture of berries? One thing I do every once and a while if I'm on a long juice fast is to juice some frozen berries, it's like ice cream and really makes me feel like I'm having a treat.
When preparing my juice I juice about 2 or 3 days worth at a time in pint jars. I prepare the juice for all the jars at the same time basically filling each jar a little as I go along for example I do all my greens, then all my carrots etc. When doing a juice fast this can take awhile, over a half hour. I am wondering if it is better to juice a jar at a time, seal it then do another etc?
I try to do one combo at a time (several pints worth) and seal them up right away. The fastest way to accomplish that is to make sure I've got all the produce washed, cut up and ready to go. The less time you've got open jars with juice in them the better.
The more you juice you'll find your rhythm with it, but in the meantime I'd do whatever you find easiest, you'll learn by trial and error, we all do no matter how many different ways others tell us how they do it, we have to find what we're comfortable with.
There are lots of recipes out there, just google "juicing recipes" and you'll hit the mother load. Go through them and I'm sure you'll find plenty to keep you're tastes buds sizzling!
Be sure and let us know how it goes ;)
