..takes a closer look at boiler trash

..stares at a mess of fluffy looking white fibers
gathered from the distiller after a gallon of water got
evaporated.

...wash in citric acid to dissolve the mineral "frosting".
...drop a glob on a slide..

...that's gotta' be a fungal mycelium..what else
grows like that?

I've grown Gram positive mycelial messes like this
in urine..a year ago. Haven't done a Gram stain on
the tap water stuff yet..but I'm 99 percent sure it's exactly the same crepe'.

*drops the glob of tangled stuff into a KOH solution.
[potassium hydroxide..pH of 13.1]

if this mess is fungal..it's made of chitin..and this
high pH terror..will do nothing to it. Chitin is tuff
stuff. I use KOH to separate skin scrapings from the
ribbon fibers..which are unharmed by the KOH.

Nevertheless...the [2] derm docs insist it's not fungal.
[not that they bothered to look..much less test.]
