These things are anchored with roots..sometimes..lots
of roots..long ones too..
If you got roots going into the skin 1.5-3mm; heck Vern,
that's plumb thru the epidermis..those roots are heading
for muscle and bone, they keep growing like that.
Need something to stop those roots..maybe some Roundup...

mOrgish activity..you will find large gel accumulations. There are always gel pockets in the scab itself..some are visible in this shot; slightly out of focus.
...the lesions are generally painless...
pulling these "scab weeds" tends to smart a mite.
