Re: Iodide ions - disinfection?

First Iodide is stored in the Thyroid the ions are attached to it. Which is why the charge is so important for the next steps. A positive ionized Iodide like you get in iodized salt won't work well, may even hinder. Negative charged like some magnetized and magnescent as well as other homeopathic or electrically charged formats work best for those with this Alchemy issue.

The Thyroid then uses copper to convert back to Iodine and finally makes T2 and T4 by addition of compounds.

The real disinfectant function happens in the Thymus where T4 is converted to T3 by removing the Iodine so the Thymus can perform its widespread disinfectant functions.

The entire endocrine system needs to function for all this to work and no single fix will repair it all.

As for water purification you will note that those rare old European spots still using it have residual Iodine taste in their water because Iodide alone wont kill anaerobic bacteria.
