Is the Aquasana counter top filter still a good bet?

Hi Uny and All!

I purchased an Aquasana countertop filter and shower filter over 6 months ago, used both for about a month, then moved, and did not reinstall both items. I called the company a couple of days ago and the clerk said I would need to change the filters on both- I suppose to be safe that no bacteria has developed in them. These are the models:

Should I do anything in particular besides changing the filters or should I disinfect also? They've both been sitting pretty much undisturbed and out of their boxes since. I also wanted to now if these filters are still OK to use. I am also planning on getting the distiller that has been mentioned many times here, the AI model at $99:

Since I've been with my folks, they have been reluctant to change from their brita, so that's the water I've been drinking:( I am hoping to either convert them if I stay longer, but at least if I get the distiller I can make my own water, and I will save the countertop model for washing produce, in the future.

Thanks so much,

Teresa.
