This is one way, and there are many herbs that will help do the same thing.  Here area few examples:

But if you are having a problem with elevated blood sugar chromium polynicotinate (not picolinate) would be my first choice.  Chromium is responsible for keeping the insulin receptors open so the insulin can do its job properly:
