Re: Uny, Willow, Elf...Habanero Harvesting

Hi niteblume,

I don't know how long a habbie will stay fresh once it's picked but if you're going to make the Cayenne tincture like Uny makes then you'd want to use the habbies fresh.  Dried peppers are always hotter than when they're fresh, Uny uses mostly fresh habbies with a little African Bird pepper powder and habbie powder.

From one of Uny's posts.

Tinctures using powdered herbs (and "dried pepper cayenne tincture")

Cayenne #1 - the jar ends up being 2/3-3/4 full of "fresh habanero mush" and we add 1/2 cup of our dried pepper blend.

I know that Uny is talking about a gallon jar and if I'm not mistaken the 1/2 cup dried blend is made up of 3/4 part African Bird powder and 1/4 part habbie powder.  I'm sure that's how I made mine but for the life of me I can't find my recipe at the moment lol.

You would put the fresh raw habbies in the Vitamix with some vodka and blend them up real good then add the powder blend and give it another whirl.  There you have it, #1 Cayenne tincture.

One thing to remember is to be sure you don't stand over the Vitamix when you take the lid off cause you'll get a not so pleasant surprise lolol! You'll sure know you've got something hot hot hot!  Stand as far away from it as you can, as far away as your arm is long and it'll be fine.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question about picking the habbies to make them more productive, maybe someone else can answer that.  Did you plant your own habbie plants?

Willow
