Povidone Iodine

I am wanting to learn about the different types of iodine.

We are very happy with the Magnascent for internal use.

I make my own skin lotions and am wondering if I could add Iodine to them, perhaps in the form of povidone.

I won't use Magnascent for that purpose because it is so unstable and I don't know how it would react with other ingredients, which are mostly oils and aloe and distilled water.

Do any of you use povidone for anything? I tried to find out what it is made from the but the answers (on Wikipedia) were very polysyllabic and in terms of chemical symbols and names, rather than a common sense explanation of what ingredients in the real world go into making it. I am wondering if it is made from petroleum products.
