Re: what herbs/foods help regenerate cartilage?
DQ gave you the following suggestions:
silica from either horsetail or shavegrass
Glucosamine and chondroiton
hiyaluronic acid
MSM
aloe
trace minerals such as boron, copper and zinc
colloidal gold and silver
S-adenosylmethionine (SAM or SAM-e)
I just have a bit to add to that...
There are about 27 (last I checked) *known* nutrients necessary for cartilage regeneration and they include proteins, which can be had with a collagen supplement... of which they have types I, II, and III. Types I & III generally come together in a powder or capsule form - some offer vitamin C mixed into them. Type II is generally paired with hyaluronic acid...
Gelatin will work for the above too.
Cayce recommended the same thing in the more natural, unprocessed form of chicken joint tissue... chew on the bones. Given commercial production of chickens as it is, I would only use free range birds for this.... buy the whole chicken and make a few meals out of it, soup from the bones, and then be sure to eat all of the connective tissues.
Essential fatty acids are also necessary... Just use real, whole, grass fed, raw if you can get it, butter... and nut butters like organic sunflower seed. A fish oil if you desire... or cod liver oil if you are lacking vitamin D... these will provide fatty acids, but also help with inflammation.
Additionally, or alternatively for the D, you can get plenty of sun on your naked skin.
I would also be sure to take vitamin C with the collagen if you choose a powdered form without C... I like natural forms of C like acerola cherry, citrus peal, etc.
I use a product with added beet root powder from Health Force Nutritionals most often, however do also use acerola and citrus peal in my superfood mix.
These, if a whole food, will also contain pectin - apples are a good source of pectin. You can also get a powdered fruit pectin and use it to supplement with.
As far as herbal mixes go... BF&C is a good mix.
