Re: I am considering switching from my water fast to a juice fast but I'M CONFUSED :(
Okay..so I'm on my Day 20 of the water fast and I feel okay but I really don't like being inactive. I want to workout and just be outdoors and enjoy the summer but with this water fast I can't do any of that really. I'm at home, spitting up extra saliva, feeling nausea ALL the time, bad taste in mouth, feeling weak, no BM's.. the list goes on.
Hi 496 :). Congrats on 20 days, that is awesome. Feeling nausia really makes it hard to continue and yours sounds more consistent than anything i have ever experienced, so above all i truly empathize with you. Nevertheless, if at all possible it would be ideal to ride this fast out at least until the nausia has passed since it is most undesirable to break the fast in the midst of such an unresolved crisis... something you will see consistently throughout the literature.
Everything you seek will be awaiting you whenever you decide to break... working out, absense of nausia, a nice taste in your mouth, feeling strong and having bm's :). It's really up to you but a big part of being able to fast successfully to our goals is finding the patience within ourselves to await these blessings.
Regarding the bm's, i mentioned before that i fasted for 36.5 days without a single movement, something that is well within the realm of normalcy and according to Dr. Shelton and other fasting experts there is nothing to be concerned about in this area.
If I juice fast, will I gain weight? I'll be working out too so will my weight continue to drop?
Weight has many facets and I would only be concerned about the specific type of weight. Eventually you will eat solid foods and at that time you will gain intestinal contents at the very least along with a certain amount of temporary water loss. However, if you keep caloric consumption below caloric expenditure, you will not only avoid gaining fat but continue to lose more... and such continued fat loss can definately be achieved on a juice diet... and all the more so when you're working out.
Also important is that once we begin eating (including juicing) and we are no longer in ketosis, that we not eat so far below our caloric expenditure that we are burning muscle... it might be impressive on the scale, but this type of weight we truly don't want to be losing : ).
Will my body still be in detox mode?
Yes, but not as aggressive a detox as with water-only which is said to cleanse and heal us about 3 times faster than juicing.
Will I have more energy?
Under most circumstances you absolutely will... it can make a night and day difference... but the one exception would be breaking the fast in mid-crisis. If you are feeling sick, drinking anything but water can actually make you feel weaker and sicker and thus in most such instances our body would be better off continuing to fast.
Best wishes unto you : ).
