High on water is the only poster that I can recall that has painted iodine for pain and I'm not sure what form she used.
Topically applied iodine is an old remedy for pain, I have not heard of a single current Dr, etc, that is employing this therapy therefore there is no current info on how it works. Here's some info from the wayback machine, though...read through it and you will see that various types of iodine are used.... and an explanation of how it works...

really excellent info here on how iodine WORKS when applied topically. I've got to add here that High on Water is an intuitive genius- she has repeatedly posted that painting iodine relieves pain.
Excellent info on "artificial hyperemia" as well. Stimulating the body to fight against localized infection, inflammatory response, etc.
