Re: Day 3 UGH

141girl said: everybody is saying when you do a water fast you loose only WATER WEIGHT && NOT FAT WEIGHT.

Hello and welcome 141 girl :).

Fat is the primary fuel source in a water only fast so as NothingBetter has stated you will definately lose a certain amount of fat. At your weight i would estimate that your bmr will require your fasting body to burn about 1600 or 1700 calories, perhaps about 1440 from fat which is about .4 pounds of fat per day. Again as NothingBetter has mentioned, this is taking place even as you sleep whether you want it to or not : ).

i want to know will you be able to tell the difference loosing 20 pounds water weight in your body as loosing fat loss ?!

Depending upon how long your fast and a couple of other factors, most of the water weight you lose is likely to be back on your body within 2-3 weeks, so it won't look like anything, but the fat loss will be yours to cherish and will be noticeable for sure.

... because if its not noticeable , im not going to suffer for no results.

If your primary reason for fasting is fat loss, another very good alternative is nutritiously dense eating and exercise, particularly intense cardio and muscle training.  Another benefit of this approach is that your metabolism will not temporarily decrease as with fasting... rather it will increase.

NothingBetter said: "20 lbs of water loss is impossible, you don't have 20 lbs of excess water to lose."

I'm going to have to disagree with this. Our bodies are said to be about 62% water. I started my 36.5 day fast at 177 so my water content would have been about 110 pounds. By the end of my fast i was down to 138 (39 total pounds of loss).

Within 21 days of refeeding from 90% vegetables and fruits, moderate calories and no added salt, my weight was back up to 163 where it stabilized (25 pounds of the 39 had been gained back)... and over the past 10 days my weight has remained stable at 163 so i lost 14 pounds of real weight which was predominately fat [and certainly not 39! : ) ]. I expect that about 2 pounds of the 25 gained back was intestinal contents but if most of the remaining 23 pounds of gain was not water, a gain that came to a complete halt after 21 days, i ask in absolute earnest, what was it?

And it's not as if this was a freak one-time occurance.  My other two long fasts over the past 12 months went very similarly to which my daily weight logs will attest, each time gaining about 20-25 very fast pounds back within about 3 weeks before stabilizing.

I estimate that my caloric intake was about 1500 in the first week, about 2000 in the 2nd week, about 2500 in the third week and about 2800 in the past 10 days where my weight has remained at 163. To gain 25 pounds of fat in 3 weeks, burning about 2000 calories basally, i would have required a caloric intake of about 6000 per day.

With the amount of calories my body would have been burning in my fast, 12-14 pounds of fat loss makes sense... but 39 pounds simply doesn't. I would have needed to burn about 4000 calories per day in a resting fast to achieve this... in a state of profound rest where my body was conserving all of it's energies and with a metabolism that was gradually slowing daily.
