HV, I have made some lime and lemon pickle(s), and have been loving the lemon pickle lately, (<
I wonder what your take on it is, in terms of its qualities as a wholesome/healthful food, and something good for the stomach/digestive system. I know that cooked "spices" are thought of as detrimental to health: such as cooked hot pepper--yet the raw is accorded great resepct as a healer.(per Christopher and many, many herbalists)
ingredients:
organic lemons
sea salt (celtic and himalayan--maybe the celtic is perferable?)
turmeric
ground yellow mustard seed
dark mustard seed
chili pepper
cayenne
fresh ginger
garlic
a small amount of coconut oil
I've been having this on a piece of flax/whole rye bread
with tahini. Really loving it.

On a related topic, my mother (who had the hip replacement I was speaking of, which i was hoping to find alternate methods for) sadly had a further emergency after, with bleeding ulcers(!!!) she lost about four pints of blood. Probably quite related to the blood thinners she was on after the hip replacement, as well as the NSAIDS over the last few years... as you know, one thing leads to another.
(Like me, she has low stomach acid--yet I think has probably been believing/experiencing the opposite: taking antacids, like pepto-bismol, tums, and all, over the years. It was a miracle she survived this. Three ulcers were cauterized, and she is now taking some medications to "soothe" the stomache, and hardly eating (yogurt). She is very tired, and also has "a cold", that sounds more like bronchitis. (She is staying with my sister, and I am in another country) She had a huge craving for a can of "baked beans" the other day (about nine days after the emergency)...I perceived this as being because of (needing) the molasses...
It's quite sad, isn't it, how the food-science-industry has put just enough of the 'good' into processed foods, and the weak, the infirm, those without the ability to prepare or gather their own food, are trapped in the "ease" of these so-called foods, which just provide enough to keep the person in a state of craving and entrapment.(?)
(and weakness) I don't know what to suggest for my mother, to help her to heal-- I am disheartened by the knowledge that the Antibiotics she is on now, are probably creating a scenario of superbugs...and so on.
She also has been so weak, she's fallen behind on the all-important exercises to help her hip/body heal/adjust.
I think she is starting to get a little energy back. (it is not an ideal recuperation scene for her, and stressful, i think) I will talk to her again in a few days. Maybe you have an idea or two?
when I suggested the blackstrap molasses on its own, in a drink, she semed to think that was too difficult to obtain.
