model MI-5000STD...current price is around $340.00
....all the specs at the website.
much better quality than I expected for the price.
Very solid construction..very smooth mechanicals.
ball bearing stage..*
*[do not get a microscope without a mechanical
stage for positioning your specimen..you will drive
yourself batty if you intend to spend any time at it..since
you will have to manually position the slide with your
hammy human fingers..fingers suck at moving things in
sub mm increments.]
I have used this microscope heavily for a year.
I have no complaints.
the first camera was purchased at the same site..
the 1.3 Mpixel digital cam MI-DC1300.
It's just..ok...but very overpriced at $199.95.
For the "high mag" shots
Im using the imager from a Celestron 44306..a handheld
microscope/camera..that's available at Amazon for about
$70.00. The camera on the handheld is detachable..and
fits the eyepiece barrel of the MI-5000 perfectly.
The 2.0 Mpixel camera of the Celestron is much superior to the 1.3 MPixel available at homesciencetools.
The driver and imaging software from Celestron that comes
with the camera/scope is also much better than the software
from homesciencetools. The Celestron imaging software
is from Arcsoft..WIN XP and VISTA.
**note..I am only able to use 2 of the 4 available turret
lenses on the bench scope..[the 4x and the 10.] the 40x and
100x lenses are fogged.. i suspect i damaged them with
improper use/cleaning of the immersion fluid which is
necessary for very high magnifications. The stock eye lens
is 10x. there is an optional 15x lens avail for around $20.00...which will increase the
stock magnifications by 50 percent.
[60x vs 40x..150x vs 100, etc..]
It is an Excellent wide field lens..I use if for general
"hand loup" duties when it is not on the microscope.
The 30x loup, also from amazon for appx $12.00..is excellent as well. [there are lots of loupes..be sure you
get the Triplet...not one of the absurdly bad knockoffs...that try to "look" like a triplet loupe. Having
three lenses is critical to distortion free images at that
magnification.. I've bought two..buying another.
Highly recommended. amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/SE-Triplet-Jewelers-Loupe-30X/dp/B001BSGGQ2/ref=sr_1_9?...
note the reviews..five stars. this is a good loup.
For less than 12 dollars..its an outstanding deal.
I use mine every day..too many times a day...but I can
see the micro critters easily and corral them for closer
inspection if necessary with the "big guns".
** homesciencetools: I have placed several complex orders
for glassware/labware/etc. They have never made
a mistake yet. All orders have arrived
with the correct items..the correct quantity
and unbroken. [..all the glass flasks made it? amazing.]
AAA rating from me.
