The major flaw in your theory is that the Scriptures were originally written to be read by the priests and the people could not even read or write. Now that the majority of the population is literate, that is not the case, So if essentially anyone can read the scriptures it cannot have the said power to rule the discerning mind. If one is ignorant and takes what the supposed authorities that distort at face value, then one is within their control. On the other hand if one is not ignorant of the philosophical underpinnings of the scriptures and comes to understand its meaning and use it as a tool, then one can utilize this tool to defeat the supposed authorities.
