Don't quit the fish oil -- simply get a small bottle and keep it in the fridge. If you use 1 Tbs/day, it won't go rancid before you finish the bottle. I use lemon flavored Carlson Fish Oil. It is molecularly distilled, so there is no mercury or other contaminents in it. Tastes so mild that I use it as salad dressing!
Many people's bodies can't convert the flax form of fatty into the fish form. This gets into complicated biochemistry, but that is why fish oil is better than flax oil.
That said, I love fresh ground flax and chia seeds as well. Chia is my newest love. I soak it in water overnight, then use the "chia gel". It is really high in soluble fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, etc. You don't need to grind the chia, though it is best to soak it. It absorbs 9x its weight in water!
