in what way does adrenal fatigue induce cravings for carbs?
There are two primary forms of hypoglycemia. The first occurs when you eat, your blood sugar spikes leading to an insulin spike over dropping the blood sugar. This is called acute hypoglycemia, also known as rebound or reactive hypoglycemia. This is related more to a chromium deficiency.
The second form, chronic hypoglycemia, involves adrenal dysfunction. When the blood sugar drops below normal the adrenals should release cortisol, which in turn releases stored glycogen from the liver, which in turn brings the blood sugar back up to normal. If the adrenals are slow to react to the drop in blood sugar then the blood sugar continues to drop leading hypoglycemia. The body craves carbohydrates during these hypoglycemic reactions as a means to get the blood sugar back up.
