Butyrate is recommended by some alternative health care providers to heal the colon in leaky gut syndrome and is helpful for ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
Butyrate is produced by anaerobic bacteria in the colon such as bifidobacteria. One way to increase butyrate is to eat lots of fibre. This works if you can tolerate a high fibre diet and you have the right bacteria in your colon to produce the butyrate.
Another way might be to eat 100g of butter every day, because butter is 3-4% butyrate.
