Your post reminded me of a radio show I listened to more than 30 years ago.

A prankster asked stupid questions to people in the streets, and the answers were recorded and broadcasted later in that radio show.

Once, the question was "what do you think about the fact that some poor countries want to be nuked by the USA so that they can eventually become rich like Japan.

But seriously, we have to realize that after WWII, the Japanese people were not occidentalized like they are now.

They were less individualistic. The economy was less global.

But indeed, the contrast now is staggering.
