Re: Calling All Anti Candida Support

Sorry about your troubles. Candida is a tough thing to manage and sadly, I don't think it is ever really "cured," just "managed." There are many, many different approaches to the problem, probably because (as with everything) one size rarely fits all. Somethings work for one person that just doesn't work for another. The best approach to the issue is four pronged:

The main thing here is to elimiate foods you are allergic to or react badly to (such as wheat or dairy). Allergy testing might be needed. Also, eat a healthy, well-balanced, diverse diet with plenty of whole, unprocessed foods that have a low-glycemic index. So Sugar and the like should be avoided. At first, veggies and protein might be the mainstay of the diet, but there should be a gradual adding in of other, healthy foods, always monitoring your reaction to them along the way.

Very important. If you have a milk allergy, be sure to get the milk free ones.

Anti-candida, anti-fungal herbs and/or foods are important. Garlic and Caprylic acid are two of the most frequently mentioned ones. Also, it's important to rotate the anti-candida supplements, because they build up a resistance.

The immune system has become overwhelmed in its efforts to deal with the candida. More than that, something has likely happened to weaken the immune system BEFORE the candida began to proliferate. Something that compromised its ability to keep it all in check. What that trigger has been is as individual as all the different people on this site.

For myself, I believe a great part of it is my apparent inability to handle extreme stress. People who handle stress or stressful situations well seem to have either a great deal of faith in some higher power or they have a very tight group of friends/family that they lean on heavily during times of trouble. I have been sadly lacking in both those things, which means I just hold on the the anxiety and/or depression, feeling worse and worse. In times of stress, our immune system goes on high alert. Unfortunately, living everyday on high alert is bound wear it down and weaken it. So, for me, stress management and finding a healthy way to deal with anxiety is of extreme importance.

Other things to weaken it could be some lingering illness or hidden allergies, an environmental toxin, pregnancy and childbirth, parasites. It could be so many things, or a combination of those things. Again, it all just depends on the person.

I also have to add that I think removing the toxins produced during die-off is very important. For me, the die off was just like all my candida symptoms rolled into one and put on steroids. It was terrible! Drinking a lot of water helps, but cleaning out the bowels is just as important, if not more so. To me, enemas were an important part of getting rid of the candida/die off. I won't say that I think everyone should do it, since that's for them to decide based on their own health, but I do think it's important to get the stuff out somehow.
