I had worked up to high doses of MSM and Vitamin C for detox and nutritional support when I went in for my general physical. All was well, except my ALT/AST enzyme levels. The Doc said it could be a gallstone, and to have it checked again in a month.
I hadn't started flushing yet, so this alarmed me. I did some research and found that MSM could cause artificially high enzyme readings while in detox. So, I discontinued the MSM a week before the next test and all was fine.
I believe the MSM was triggering a cleansing reaction in my liver. Certainly, I had headaches, and typical detox feelings. Perhaps the sulfer from the MSM is needed to produce enzymes used to nutralize metabolic wastes.
Whatever, all was normal the next time I tested. I wonder if someone fasting or on a serious cleanse would test high in enzymes without MSM. Could be...
