Re: Getting off antidepressants-withdrawl/restore support
Pristiq is a selective serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Both of these neurotransmitters can be increased with supplements. For serotonin I recommend 5-HTP and the amino acid tyrosine for norepinephrine. I recommend 50mg 5-HTP and 500mg tyrosine 3 times daily at least 30 minutes before meals. I also recommend giving this 1 to 2 weeks to build up before trying to wean off the Pristiq. In addition trimethylglycine (TMG) is a methyl donor that helps to build up neurotransmitters. I recommend 1,000mg 3 times daily of TMG with meals. Once off the Pristiq you should be able to wean off the 5-HTP and I recommend reducing the tyrosine slowly to once daily. The tyrosine is good to stay with since it helps to support the thyroid as well and raises dopamine, which also helps with mood.
I also recommend adding nettle leaf to your regime. Nettle leaf helps to reduce lactate, which is the most common trigger for panic attacks. Nettle leaf also helps to support the adrenals, which will reduce over release of epinephrine, another common cause of panic attacks. You will also find that nettle leaf is very nutritious and supports the liver, kidneys, thyroid, intestines, and connective tissue. It is a very safe herb and makes a great iced tea if steeped over night with a little lemon grass and stevia. Because nettle is high in magnesium and chromium, and supports the adrenals it can also help with the muscle jerking and the hypoglycemia.
These should stop the panic attacks. If not then I also recommend adding the amino acid glycine or gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), 500-1,000mg 3 times daily at least 30 minutes before meals.
